European Venue Cost Benchmarks 2026 — 15 Cities, 6 Categories, Real Numbers

Per-attendee daily venue costs across 15 European MICE cities in 6 categories. Based on 41 active sourcing campaigns + 60+ recent contracts. Use as a 2026 baseline before approving any corporate event budget.

Most "European event cost" articles online quote single numbers averaged across markets that don't compete with each other. A Lisbon event has a different cost structure than a Zurich event; lumping them together makes the benchmark useless.

What's NOT in these benchmarks

How to use these benchmarks

  1. Sanity-check first proposals. If a hotel quotes 30% above the city's typical band, ask why. If 30% below, check what's missing.
  2. Defend budget to CFO. Quote the published benchmark range; explain where your event sits and why.
  3. Compare cross-city honestly. A €280 pp/day Lisbon event isn't "cheaper" than a €560 London event if the London event drives 4× the pipeline.
  4. Re-benchmark annually. This page refreshes Q3 each year with fresh campaign data.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Zurich so much more expensive? Swiss VAT (8.1%) + service-charge structure + currency + limited 4★ MICE inventory. Even adjusting for currency, Zurich runs 30-50% above other DACH cities.

Are 5★ hotels really 30-50% more than 4★? Yes, in most categories. For F&B specifically, 5★ adds 30-40%. For meeting room rental, 5★ adds 20-30%. For room rate, 5★ adds 40-80%. The "5★ premium" is most pronounced in capital cities.

What's the cheapest European MICE city for 2026? Krakow + Lisbon are consistently cheapest. Budapest + Prague are second tier. Below those, smaller cities (Tallinn, Riga, Ljubljana) can be 20-30% cheaper but have limited 4★ MICE inventory.

How accurate are these numbers? Based on 41 active campaigns + 60+ contracts in our sample. Variance ±20% within the listed range is normal. Cities with thin sample (Stockholm, Zurich) have wider real-world variance.

Do these include taxes? Excluded. Add 5-25% depending on country + event type. See VAT recovery guide for the European tax map.
